The Giants cut two players today, & signed another

Michael Palmer counted against the cap since his cap number listed below fit into the Giants' top 51 cap numbers, whereas Antonio Dennard didn't:

  • Since they cut Plamer today, the Giants' overall cap number went down.
  • They replaced Palmer & Dennard with only one player today, Undrafted Rookie Free Agent (UDFA) Morgan Newton out of Kentucky.
  • Newton played QB in college, but is converting to TE in the pros. Here's a write-up about him:

  • Newton's cap number--which doesn't count against the cap--is $405,000 since he is an UDFA.
  • The 90th roster spot is vacant as of now.
  • It'll be interesting to see who they fill it with going forward.

Here are the cap numbers for players 52 through 89 as of now

It should be noted that none of these players count against the cap at this time since the "Top 51" rule is in effect. The Giants only have 89 players on their 90-man roster as of now due to some moves they made today (see them at the very bottom of this post):

Giants' Top 51 Cap numbers as of today (with one projection/estimate for Justin Pugh)

The only projection is for first round pick Justin Pugh (a very accurate estimate, as per overthecap.com regarding Pugh's estimated cap number as the 19th overall pick in last month's draft).

Here are the estimates:

Here is how I calculated this estimate using the information listed above:

The cap number for Johnathan Hankins was finalized a couple of days ago. Here it is from overthecap.com:

The Pugh contract should get done sometime this month or in June. After that, these numbers will reflect reality. As of now, they are only projected since Pugh's contract is the lone contract in the Top 51 listed above that has not been officially added since it is still being negotiated, even though there isn't much negotiation to get done.
